Author Visits, Traveling & Scheduling 2017

This is the time of year I begin making lists. Grocery lists, kid’s soccer, basketball and now archery (how we got roped into that one I’m still not sure) schedules, the husband’s fire department schedule and trying to carve out vacation time in between all the rest of it. But there is one list that is my absolute favorite to make: the author visits list!!!!!

My favorite thing about writing for children is getting to visit them at school. Last year I traveled as far away as Missouri and got to spend time with some of my favorite people AND talk about clean water.

This year, I just want more of the same. Driving back from that Missouri visit, I called the husband and told him if I could just make a living at writing and traveling to schools, I’d have a dream life. Well, that’s what I did.

I’m writing full time now. I reduced my law practice to doing nothing but mediations and I am focusing on writing several new children’s books and even my 1st non-fiction book.

When traveling out of town, I love to stay with someone I know to reduce costs for the school for traveling expenses and I get some friend time in at the end of the day. I also love to partner with schools who may not have the opportunity to welcome authors because of finances. So if we start talking about me coming, obviously I want your school to buy a TON of books, but also be thinking about a school in your area that cannot make that same commitment. I want to go there too!

In the dozens of schools I’ve given presentations, I have presented “I Walk For Water” to grades preK-6th grade. I’ve also spoken to middle schoolers about writing. We talk about everything from the writing process, global access to clean water, Africa, how old I am, and other life changing topics. :)

I’ve also spoken to women’s groups and churches about child sponsorship, adoption, infertility, grief and how to hang on to hope.

Here are the dates I know I will be somewhere already:

March 13-17, 2017-Colorado Springs/Denver

April 3-4, Dallas, Texas

How cute are my Missouri friends? They were so much fun and one of my favorite schools to visit!

Here’s the link to Amazon, so you can check out “I Walk For Water” & see if it is a good fit for your school or church.

Shoot me an email and I can send you or your school’s librarian a media kit that will talk about setting up a visit.

I can’t wait to see you and your school or church group for author visits in 2017!
